The CGTB Travel Program (formerly CYGBA) offers Cranston girl basketball players the opportunity to play against the best players and teams across the state of Rhode Island, through the Rhode Island Youth Basketball Association (RIYBA). More importantly, the CGTB travel program offers girls the opportunity to raise their level of development and love of the game.
Travel teams will play a league schedule (8 games and playoffs) at each grade level (Grade 4 – Grade 8) competing against other towns in Rhode Island and possibly Southeastern Massachusetts to determine a state championship. Our 6th and 8th grade teams both won their respective state championships in 2020. We will also compete in at least 3 tournaments run by individual towns.
Girls in grade 3 thru grade 8. Cranston residents only.
Participation in a Cranston recreational basketball program is not required in order to be a part of a CGTB team. Girls may participate in recreation leagues offered in the city if they would like to, but would have to commit to CGTB practices and games if selected after tryouts.
All of our travel teams practice 1-2 times per week with opportunities to learn and develop skills needed to play in middle school in a fun and safe environment. Each practice is 90 minutes long. League games will be played on weekends. Invitational tournaments will be played on select weekends throughout the season. The season runs from November through March, with the first games scheduled for the weekend of December 4th.
Pre-Season Clinics & “Middle School Open Run”
Cranston Girls Travel Basketball will be hosting a free preseason clinic for any girl who resides in Cranston in grades 3 – 5. This clinic is for any new or returning girls who may have previously played in CYGBA. The clinic will be an opportunity for girls to learn, practice and develop skills needed to play the game of basketball. The clinic will be run by our Travel Team coaches. We may also have special guest appearances by our older travel team members and area women college players and coaches. The clinic will run from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Sunday mornings starting on October 17, 2021 through November 7, 2021.
In addition, any girl who resides in Cranston in grades 6 – 8 may register for our ” Middle School Open Run” hosted by Cranston Girls Travel Basketball. This event will take place from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Sunday mornings starting October 17, 2021 through November 7, 2021. This will be a free activity for middle school girls to get ready for the coming season. It will be run by Cranston Girls Travel Basketball coaches. The hour will consist of a warmup, light skill work and gameplay.
Registration is required and all girls should bring a water bottle and basketball, and we also will require masks to be worn by all in attendance.
Travel Team Tryouts
CGTB travel teams are formed via tryouts where coaches will select 8-9 players per team. Tryouts that have enough players to form 2 teams will do so. Tryouts will take place the last week of October and the first week of November. There is no cost to tryout, however if your child is invited to join a team then a fee will be charged.
